Usually I try to have these posts nice and polite and mellow and all that stuff I taught myself to be, which is quite the opposite of how I was brought up and how I behave when I don't put an effort in to be civil, but fudging Blender, I mean I spent a few hours trying to tackle an issue in fudging Blender and it infuriated me just like it used to and I'd say this is like the good old days, only I didn't miss the [expletive deleted] [expletive deleted] of Blender and while I'm very satisfied I managed to solve it I'm also enraged because Blender is trying to kill you still applies and its mother is a [expletive deleted] and I hope it gets an [etc] up its [etc].
You're welcome to stop reading this post if technical mumbo jumbo isn't your thing, and this will mean nothing to people who don't do 3D, but I have to get it out, so fudging Blender apparently doesn't bake a texture if the UV coordinates are outside the image bounds, although it very happily displays the texture just fine even if the UV map is located in X + 8 so why, why, why, Blender, why is your mama a [etc] and your face [etc] and your gran is a [etc] that uses cooking utensils for [etc] on her [etc] and godsssss I'm so infuriated
...Anyway, having spent a couple of hours tackling every aspect of texture-baking I could think of, I moved the UV map 'just on the offchance, though it makes no sense' and it worked even though it makes no sense, which brings me back to Blender is trying to kill you, and to theoretically being grateful that it's really no longer like that in 95% of the Blender features I use, only I'm not in the mood to be grateful right now and I need a smoke.
(I quit smoking during the pandemic. Or, rather, smoking quit me, because it stopped being enjoyable, for which both me, my doctors and my insurance agent are happy. Also, it wasn't cigarettes; it was a hookah, and I still have one, but luckily smoking is still not enjoyable. I do miss it on the psychological aspect, though, even if that happens less and less.)
...Phew. Okay. I've calmed down a bit.
Somehow this week is all Blender, far more so than it's been in a couple of years. I have that commission, which was unexpected both because people don't ask me for them and because I actually turned down the 5-6 who did because I enjoy watercolor too much and time is limited; aside from the commission, I was asked for help from a friend who went to great lengths to help me when I was broke - that is, she offered to pay, didn't ask for help, but the woman invested many hours teaching me stuff and encouraging me to pursue making VRchat assets as an income, and it felt... I mean, having someone push me to do something that's good for me, that feels like deep care in my book; it's a thing I crave. Probably something about the family dynamic I grew up in. Anyway, if someone gave you much for free you don't accept payment from them, so I'm doing that, and, again, that's more Blender than I've had in a while - and then this other lady two days ago, asking how to wrap a moon texture on an existing sphere model from Second Life, and me ending up doing Blender problem-solving, which also hasn't happened in ages.
So suddenly there's much Blender in my life. It's actually nice, even though I complain about missing watercolor.
